Why we included this project

Koharu is a desktop program that runs the full manga translation workflow on your own machine. It finds text regions and speech bubbles, reads dialogue and captions with OCR, and uses generative inpainting to remove the original lettering before a local LLM or hosted provider translates the page. The vision and language models run locally by default, so your artwork never has to leave your computer. Projects can span images, archives, or PDFs, and you can run each pipeline stage selectively at page or project scope. If you translate manga regularly and would rather keep detection, OCR, cleanup, and translation in one tool than juggle separate utilities, this is a solid fit.
