Why we included this project

Karakeep is a self-hosted archive for the things you actually want to keep: links, notes, images, and PDFs, all searchable from one place. It pulls titles and descriptions for saved links automatically, and search covers both full text and semantic meaning, so you can find something even when you only half-remember it. LLM tagging and summarization help keep the pile organized, and you can run those models locally through Ollama if you'd rather not send your content anywhere. A rule engine and RSS auto-hoarding let you collect without opening the app, and browser extensions plus mobile apps make saving on the go easy, with offline reading for when you're away from a connection. If owning your data matters more than the convenience of a hosted service, this is a practical, self-contained option.
