Why we included this project

If you want an AI assistant that can fetch current information without handing every query to a third-party search vendor, this MCP server is worth a look. It connects the SearXNG meta-search API to any Model Context Protocol client, so Claude, Cursor, or your own tooling can search the web, read pages as Markdown, and get structured answers from an instance you pick, including one you host yourself. Because the operator controls the SearXNG endpoint, your prompts don't pass through an external search company, which matters for privacy-sensitive work. Beyond basic search it adds pagination, filters for time, language, and safe search, direct answers and infoboxes, plus URL reading with PDF extraction and an optional browser solver for sites that block plain fetches. Setup is a short JSON config and a SearXNG URL, with npm and Docker packages to keep it simple.
