Why we included this project

Draw.io Scientific Illustrator lets an AI agent build scientific figures directly inside the visible draw.io desktop editor, so you can watch shapes, labels, arrows, and layout appear one step at a time and steer the drawing as it goes. Instead of generating XML and opening it afterward, the Codex plugin talks to draw.io's own graph API through a localhost-only MCP server, which keeps every element editable and lets you review each section visually before anything is saved to a file. A bundled file-utility server validates the finished .drawio document and exports PNG, SVG, PDF, or JPG versions for submission. One honest caveat: this repository is in legacy status, with all development moved to the scientific-illustrator successor, so new users should pick up that project instead; this version was tested primarily on Windows.
