Why we included this project

LLM-powered agents were a fast-moving research area in 2023, and this index captures what that work looked like while it was still settling. It gathers papers, open-source projects, surveys, and blog posts, sorted into areas like autonomous task solving, multi-agent cooperation, web agents, robotics and embodied AI, and human interaction simulation. Paper entries carry markers for citation counts and conference acceptances, so you can tell foundational work from niche contributions without reading everything. The maintainers are upfront that the list is not actively updated and mostly covers work from before late 2023, so treat it as a record of the field's early years, not a live tracker. If you are building a reading list or trying to understand agent architectures and benchmarks, this is a useful research starting point, not a tool you deploy.
