Why we included this project

Home Assistant is great at running your home, but getting it to answer questions in plain English used to mean stitching together a pile of scripts. ha-mcp changes that by exposing the Model Context Protocol, so a tool like Claude Desktop can read device states, run services, and adjust automations by just asking. The project installs as a Home Assistant custom component through HACS and runs inside Home Assistant itself, which means it works on HA OS, Supervised, and container setups with no separate process to babysit. With dozens of tools covering everything from sensor queries to automation triggers, it suits both hobbyists and people building a serious smart-home setup. Everything runs locally, so you get an LLM-driven assistant without shipping your home's data to someone else's cloud.
