Why we included this project
Most AI roundups target developers and startups, so economists often have to wade through hundreds of unrelated repos to find anything useful. This list filters for tools that actually serve economics work: natural-language access to economic data, causal machine learning, Stata integration, and agent skills for writing and reviewing papers. It is maintained by the OpenEcon team, who build open-source infrastructure connecting AI to economics, so the picks come from real use rather than automated discovery. Newcomers get pointed to setup guides and MCP servers that wire coding assistants into economics workflows, which makes it a reasonable first stop for researchers and instructors who want to adopt AI without guessing where to start.
