Why we included this project
Teams preparing finished video for real delivery will find GPAC a hard-working toolbox rather than a single-purpose app. Its workhorse is MP4Box, a command-line packager that can demux, transcode, inspect, and remux almost any media you hand it, then segment the result for HTTP adaptive streaming in MPEG-DASH, HLS, or CMAF. It also handles CENC and related encryption, so protected assets can be packaged for broadcast, OTT, or VR delivery. Since it's written in C and ships Python and Node bindings, it fits into automation pipelines without much fuss, for instance taking generated or edited clips, normalizing them, and producing playable multi-bitrate streams. That makes it attractive for small teams and researchers who want one reliable, standards-focused tool to glue their media workflows together instead of stitching several commercial products.
