Gemini CLI is a terminal-based agent that can answer questions, run shell commands, fetch web pages, and edit files, with Google Search grounding when you need up-to-date facts. The Model Context Protocol support is what makes it useful for real work: you can attach custom MCP servers and clients so the agent reaches your own tools and data sources, not just the public web. It installs quickly via npx, npm, or Homebrew, and the free tier for personal Google accounts, 1,000 requests a day, is enough to test it on your actual tasks before you decide to pay.
