Why we included this project

Local LLM copilots have matured enough that a curated list of them is genuinely useful, and this one covers the landscape well. It groups editor extensions, standalone tools, chat interfaces, models, and training data into a single index, with notes that call out which projects are truly open source. The author also includes a suggested setup pairing LM Studio with the Continue.dev extension and specific model picks for autocomplete versus chat, which is the kind of concrete advice that saves you from guessing. Since the field moves quickly, the list is generated from a data file and accepts community edits, so it stays reasonably current. Use it as a starting point to shortlist candidates before testing them on your own machine.
