Why we included this project
Putting together a training set for object detection usually means someone spends hours drawing boxes around things, and this project makes that work collaborative rather than a solo grind. The web interface lets several people label images at the same time and export the results in a format that feeds straight into a TensorFlow detection pipeline, so you spend less time converting files and more time getting to a usable dataset. One thing to know going in: the hosted version is gone, so there is no zero-setup option anymore. You will either run it yourself or follow the maintainers' pointers to successor projects. For a researcher or small team that wants browser-based labeling without committing to a heavy commercial platform, it is still a reasonable thing to evaluate.
