Why we included this project
SmartSub is a desktop app that wraps the full video localization chain, from transcription and translation to dubbing and burning in the finished subtitles, and keeps it on your own hardware. Drop in a local video or paste a Bilibili or YouTube link, and Whisper-family and sherpa-onnx models transcribe the speech locally, so nothing leaves the machine. You can then translate the subtitles with the free built-in source or any of the many providers it supports, have the lines read by a TTS voice (cloning a voice from a short reference clip is supported too), and burn the result into the video with the bundled ffmpeg, all without an API key. Since it runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux with optional GPU acceleration and a proofreading editor for every line, it offers creators localizing content and educators reusing foreign courseware a predictable, offline subtitle production chain on their own hardware.
