Why we included this project
GPUImage 3 carries the GPUImage name into the Metal era: it is the Swift rewrite of the well-known framework that swaps OpenGL for Apple's current GPU API, aimed squarely at real-time video and image work on iOS and macOS. Rather than handing you a stack of preset filters, it gives you a pipeline model where you chain image sources through processing stages and out to render targets, and the framework handles the Metal shader boilerplate in between. That makes it a practical pick for teams building camera apps, live effects, or machine-vision pre-processing who would rather spend their time on image logic than GPU plumbing. Its API deliberately mirrors GPUImage 2, so anyone moving from that version can mostly swap frameworks and keep existing pipeline code. If your project needs low-latency frame processing on Apple hardware, this is a proven place to start.
