Why we included this project

Choosing a CLI coding agent means wading through a lot of READMEs, and this directory does the legwork for you. It collects 120+ tools that run in the terminal and work directly on your repository, with open-source options like Aider, OpenCode, and Goose listed separately from platform agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI. What makes it more than a simple list is the attention to the layer around the agents themselves: session managers, parallel runners, autonomous loops, and the harnesses that sandbox or orchestrate them. That organization by role, rather than just star count, helps whether you are picking one agent or figuring out how a team would run several at once. It is kept current, so it is a reasonable place to start when you want to see what terminal-native AI development looks like right now.
