Why we included this project

OpenReel Video is a browser-based editor that handles the full range of video work, from quick trims to multi-track timelines with keyframe animation and color grading. Everything runs on the client side using React, TypeScript, WebCodecs, and WebGPU, so footage never leaves the device and there is nothing to upload. That makes it a solid pick for privacy-conscious work, and since no installation is needed, a team can open Chrome or Edge and start editing right away. The feature list reads like a desktop suite: transitions, blend modes, speed control with pitch preservation, text animations, and karaoke-style subtitles. It is MIT-licensed and still in beta, so expect some rough edges, but developers can fork the 130k-plus lines of code and build on it.
