Why we included this project

Anyone who repurposes long-form YouTube videos into short social clips, and has been paying a subscription for Opus Clip or Klap, will find a free replacement here. Paste in a video URL and the tool transcribes the audio with Whisper, runs the transcript through an LLM that scores the moments most likely to hold attention, then auto-crops those segments to 9:16 for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts. It works two ways: a hosted API path for quick results, or a fully local mode using yt-dlp, faster-whisper, and ffmpeg, so the footage never has to leave your machine. Each clip comes back with a viral score, a suggested hook line, and a plain-language explanation of why it was selected, which keeps the ranking logic visible and adjustable instead of a black box. Developers can also use it as a Python library or feed the JSON output into a larger automation pipeline, which makes it both a finished tool and a useful building block.
