Why we included this project

GUN is a graph database for realtime peer-to-peer synchronization, so you get end-to-end encrypted shared state without a single central server. Because the graph is the store, any browser or device can read and write the same dataset, which fits offline-first and local-first products like collaborative editors, chat apps, or community-run backends. It's graph-based rather than relational, so it suits systems with highly interconnected data, and it has a long production track: the Internet Archive and hundreds of other apps run it in production. That's a useful signal when you're betting a data layer on an infrastructure piece, and if you're comparing self-hosted options to a hosted Firebase-style API, GUN bundles live sync and persistent storage in one package.
