Why we included this project

Agenta is a self-hostable workspace that starts from a simple idea: you describe the work you want done in chat and it becomes an agent you can keep using. The agent plans, calls tools, and adapts as it goes rather than following a fixed workflow, and you can point it at Claude Code, Codex, or Pi as the harness underneath without touching the agent itself. Teams get a shared home where files, permissions, and role-based access are built in, so an agent can be handed to a colleague instead of living on one machine. Background agents run on a schedule or when an event arrives from a connected app like Slack or GitHub, and each run logs token usage and estimated cost so you can see what every agent is actually doing. If your team already pays for Claude or ChatGPT, the self-hosted setup lets those agents run against an existing subscription instead of moving everything to metered API billing.
