Why we included this project
This list of 3D Morphable Model software and data grew out of a 2019 Dagstuhl seminar and is maintained by the community, with anyone free to add entries via pull requests. It covers face models like the Basel Face Model and FLAME, body models such as SMPL and SMPL-X, and other shapes including ears and hands, each entry linking to relevant papers or code. Because the collection started at an academic meeting and accompanies a published survey, the picks reflect what researchers actually use rather than whatever happens to trend on GitHub. That makes it a practical first stop for newcomers to statistical shape modeling and a convenient checklist for anyone planning work in face or body reconstruction who wants to know what already exists before diving in.
