Why we included this project
Researchers who keep their literature in Zotero can get an LLM assistant right inside the PDF reader pane. You can ask questions grounded in the open document, summarize a paper, crop a figure straight from the source, or compare several papers side by side without leaving the library. The plugin works with OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, DeepSeek and other standard APIs, as well as local OpenAI-compatible servers like Ollama or vLLM; if you would rather not manage API keys, browser-based WebChat and Codex paths work too. A beta agent mode can organize your library, run terminal commands, and touch local files, but it asks for approval before every change, and notes export as Markdown to Obsidian, Logseq, or a plain folder. For anyone who already lives in Zotero and wants grounded, citation-aware analysis instead of a separate chat tool, this keeps the whole loop inside the app.
