Why we included this project

Vocalinux is a desktop app for dictating into any Linux application while keeping your audio on the machine. After you download a speech model once, it works fully offline, transcribing in real time into whatever window has focus on both X11 and Wayland. You can choose whisper.cpp, OpenAI Whisper, or VOSK as the engine, and Vulkan handles GPU acceleration on AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA hardware automatically. Activation is flexible: a toggle or push-to-talk with customizable shortcuts, plus a system tray icon and graphical settings, so it feels like a normal everyday tool rather than something only developers would touch. If you care about privacy, write a lot, or need voice input for accessibility reasons, this is a solid on-device option for reliable voice typing on Linux.
