Why we included this project
Unbody is a modular, self-hostable backend that was built to give AI applications a real data layer: you point it at your files and it runs them through ingestion and ETL-style processing into a queryable index you can use for grounded chat and search. The honest caveat up front: the repo is archived and unmaintained. The authors have moved on to Unbody Labs and its Adapt project, so treat this as a blueprint and a record of how ingestion, enrichment, and retrieval can be wired into one service, not as something to deploy fresh. For teams studying that architecture before building their own knowledge layer, it is a compact and readable reference.
