Why we included this project
LLPlayer is a video player whose most useful features all sit around subtitles. You can display two tracks at once, your target language alongside a translation, and when a video has no captions, the player generates them live from the audio using Whisper, with whisper.cpp and faster-whisper as the available backends. Translation runs in real time across a range of engines, and the context-aware mode uses an LLM to produce translations that read far better than the usual line-by-line machine output. There is also instant word lookup with customizable browser search, and the yt-dlp integration brings the same live subtitles, translation, and lookup treatment to online videos. If you learn by watching series, talks, or any dialogue-heavy video, especially content that ships without captions, this becomes a practical daily tool.
