Why we included this project

Talkify is a menu-bar dictation app for Apple Silicon Macs that does all its speech recognition on the device. It relies on Apple's built-in speech tools, makes no network requests, and keeps no audio or history beyond local usage metrics, which makes it a good fit for anyone who wants to dictate without sending their voice to a cloud service. The app lives in the notch and menu bar, reads selected text aloud, and can transcribe audio or video files you drop onto the screen. The privacy story is honest about its limits: dictated text passes through the system clipboard for a moment, and Read Aloud on web pages copies the selection, so a clipboard manager could see it during that window. You can install it with Homebrew or build it from source, and for privacy-conscious macOS users it is a lightweight, local-first option worth trying.
