Why we included this project
Vibe transcribes audio and video on your own hardware, running Whisper and other speech models locally so nothing ever leaves the machine. It's a proper desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux rather than a library, which is convenient when you want to drop in a recording and get captions back without paying per-minute cloud fees. Beyond plain transcription it covers the workflow around it: batch processing, export to SRT, VTT, DOCX, or PDF, translation to English, pulling audio from YouTube and other sites, and speaker diarization or a stable-timestamps mode when you need subtitle-grade timing. The fully offline design matters if you handle sensitive recordings, and the CLI plus an HTTP API give teams a way to hook it into automation. If you've wrestled with raw Whisper setup and just want a polished interface that turns recordings into usable subtitles quickly, this is worth a look.
