Why we included this project
For live streamers and online educators who want on-screen captions without shipping audio to a cloud service, this OBS plugin handles everything on your own machine. It uses Whisper through whisper.cpp, so transcription runs on CPU or GPU and there are no per-minute fees. Keeping audio local also means no network latency and no risk of sensitive conversation leaving your computer, which matters for client calls or confidential demos. Beyond plain subtitles, it can translate the transcription into other languages in real time, so you can add multilingual captions to a stream or meeting. Prebuilt installers cover Windows, Linux, and macOS, and the plugin lives inside OBS as a dock, so setup mainly means picking your audio source and model rather than wiring up external services.
