Why we included this project

OpenContracts is for teams sitting on large, messy document collections that they want agents to be able to answer questions from. Point it at a folder of legal documents and it builds a citation graph tying what human annotators marked, what extraction pulled out, and where in the source each claim lives. That single graph is served through one API, with GraphQL or REST for your applications, a Model Context Protocol server for AI agents, and a React interface for human reviewers. The provenance matters for legal and compliance work, where an answer is only useful if you can trace it back to the exact clause. Self-hosted under an MIT license, it lets small teams run everything themselves without handing document data to a vendor, and shape extraction and annotation workflows around their own needs.
