Why we included this project
Rust teams wiring MCP into their stack get the official implementation here instead of hand-rolling the protocol. The core rmcp crate runs on tokio and handles tools, resources, prompts, and sampling over streamable HTTP and other transports, while the rmcp-macros crate generates tool implementations from plain functions. It targets the current stable MCP spec (2026-07-28) yet stays compatible with earlier releases, and ships OAuth and capability negotiation, so you can build server and client sides from the same maintained codebase. If your project is already Rust, this is the natural upstream choice over a community fork.
