Why we included this project

Most people land here through MegaDetector, the animal detection model that conservation teams already run on camera-trap images, and the rest of the hub exists to support that kind of work. Microsoft's AI for Good Lab maintains it, bundling PyTorch-Wildlife for loading, fine-tuning, and sharing detection and classification models with minimal glue code, alongside separate projects for bioacoustics and edge deployment in remote field sites. That split matters: instead of one sprawling codebase, each tool lives in its own repository and this one acts as a map for matching a sensor setup to the right software. Whether you want a ready-to-run detector for existing trap photos or a framework to build and deploy your own model from scratch, it is a solid starting point.
