Why we included this project
This is LM Studio's own TypeScript client, so it gives you a typed interface to models running on your machine rather than a cloud API. It handles chat, text completion, tool calls, and embeddings, and it fills in the local-specific work that generic OpenAI-style SDKs skip: loading and unloading models, adjusting context length and GPU offload, and reading a model's size and capabilities. Browser and Node support makes it a good fit for desktop tools, internal assistants, or small autonomous agents. Since it's maintained by the LM Studio team, the API tends to keep pace with what the desktop app can do.
