Why we included this project
If you keep a large personal photo library and would rather not hand it to a cloud service, LibrePhotos is a serious alternative. It runs on your own hardware through Docker, scans the files you already have, and turns them into a searchable timeline that keeps EXIF data and handles raw photos and videos alongside regular JPEGs. The machine-learning features work entirely on your machine: face recognition across the collection, object and scene detection, captions, and the ability to search by describing what you are looking for in plain words, with nothing uploaded anywhere. It is a complete multiuser application with a React web client and an Android app, so a household can share one private archive. For someone who wants privacy and a queryable photo history without assembling the pieces themselves, this is a finished package that deploys with Docker Compose.
