Why we included this project

Home camera setups rarely talk to each other, and bridging them into HomeKit or Google Home usually means buying new hardware or paying for a cloud service. Scrypted takes a different path: it ingests streams from most IP cameras and rebroadcasts them to HomeKit, Google Home, and Alexa with low enough latency for live viewing, so the cameras you already own show up in the smart-home apps you already use. It also doubles as a self-hosted NVR with local object and person detection, which appeals to privacy-minded users who want recording and alerts without a subscription. Plugin development is treated as a real use case, with an SDK and a VS Code debugging workflow, so the platform stays extendable instead of locking you into a fixed feature set.
