Why we included this project
Yahoo never shipped a public API for its market data, so community projects have filled that gap since 2013. yahoo-finance2 is a TypeScript wrapper that pulls quotes, historical charts, options chains, fundamentals, and screener results from Yahoo Finance, and it runs on Node, Bun, Deno, and Cloudflare Workers, so the same code can back a server-side dashboard or an edge function. Beyond the library itself there's a CLI for quick one-off lookups and an MCP server that exposes the same modules to coding agents such as Claude, Codex, and Cursor, which is handy when you want an assistant to fetch live prices mid-task. It is an unofficial, community-maintained wrapper with no guarantees from Yahoo.
