Why we included this project

Most coding agents work best when they have a plan to follow, and Taskmaster supplies that plan. You write the work out in a plain text file, and the tool converts it into a structured backlog with dependencies and tags, tracking progress as you go, so Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, Lovable, or Roo can keep referring back to it across a long session. Because it ships as an npm package or an MCP server, it slots into the editors you already use instead of asking you to adopt a new workflow. For developers and small teams running multi-step AI-assisted builds, that makes scope easier to keep visible and cuts down on the drift you get when an agent is working from a vague brief. It's a thin practical layer on top of coding agents, not a model or framework of its own.
