Why we included this project

If your desk is buried in scanned PDFs and email attachments, Docspell gives you a self-hosted place to put them all and then does most of the boring filing for you. It runs OCR on images, extracts the text, and uses machine learning built on Stanford CoreNLP to suggest who sent a document, guess useful tags, and spot dates, so you don't have to type every piece of metadata by hand. You can still organize things your own way with tags and custom fields, and later pull up anything through full-text search backed by Solr or PostgreSQL, including a query language for finer lookups. Everything sits behind a documented REST API with a mobile-friendly web app and an Android uploader, which makes it a comfortable fit on a home server or in a Docker stack. It's a practical answer if you want reliable document retrieval without handing your files to a cloud service.
