Why we included this project

EduChat comes out of East China Normal University's ICALK lab, and it is among the open models actually shaped around classroom work rather than general chat. The training data is tuned for Chinese and English education scenarios, so automatic question generation, homework grading, emotional support for students, and course tutoring work reasonably well out of the box. That makes it a practical fit for edtech startups and instructional designers who do not want to start from a generic base model. The repository also shares training reports, parameter details, and a 13TB educational corpus, which makes it easier to see how the model was built and adapt it to your own curriculum. The team has shipped several downstream products on top of it, so this is not a paper-only project.
