Why we included this project
XiaoyaoSearch is a cross-platform desktop app that finds local files by meaning instead of exact filename. Type a query, speak up to thirty seconds, or drop in an image, and it searches inside documents, PDFs, audio, and video files, not just their names. A Faiss vector index paired with Whoosh full-text search does the matching, using local models like BGE-M3 and FasterWhisper, with an option to plug in your own cloud embedding or LLM APIs. Everything stays on your machine by default, so nothing gets uploaded unless you opt into a cloud endpoint. It also exposes MCP and agent-skill interfaces, which lets Claude Desktop or coding assistants use it as a search backend.
