Why we included this project
Lathe flips the usual LLM workflow: instead of asking a model to produce an answer, you ask it to build a step-by-step tutorial you then work through by hand. You trigger it from inside a coding agent like Claude Code or Cursor with a command such as '/lathe build a 3D Slicer in Erlang', and it generates a structured series you read in a dedicated local web UI. The same skills let you ask follow-up questions, verify a tutorial's steps, or add a new part, and each tutorial records its sources, the model used, and the prompt that shaped its voice. For people who learn by doing, this is a refreshing alternative to reading a generated explanation, and it's a learning tool rather than a code generator.
