Why we included this project
This reading list gathers the foundational technical books that matter for people teaching themselves AI, machine learning, and data science. The maintainer, a self-taught data scientist who works on speech and NLP, sorts the titles by topic and roughly orders them from introductory to advanced, so it is easier to plan a self-study path than to wander a bookstore or a search engine. The notes on each book are candid and practical, calling out which ones are code-heavy, which are formal and math-focused, and which are so widely read that you will keep running into references to them across the field. A short wiki guide points total beginners to a sensible starting point. If you are assembling your own curriculum, this is a useful, opinionated map of the essential texts.
