Why we included this project

If your research lives in Zotero, this MCP server is the shortest path between that library and a capable language model. With it running, Claude, ChatGPT, and other assistants can treat your personal collection as material they actually read: ask a conversational question about a specific paper, get a summary, or pull the full text and your annotations without hand-copying citations. The standout piece is vector-based semantic search across your whole library, and since local embeddings are supported, retrieval can run entirely offline. It also handles practical chores like adding papers by DOI with metadata fetched automatically, catching duplicates, and flagging retracted work through Scite's public endpoints. For researchers, grad students, and technical writers, that grounding in your own collection, rather than the whole open web, is the real draw.
